A Ronald McDonald House (named after Ronald McDonald) is a place where the parents of children that are in a nearby hospital can stay at night for reduced or no cost. The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1974. In 1985, the first Ronald McDonald House outside the United States opened, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 1991, the 150th Ronald McDonald House opened, in Paris, France. On July 25, 2005, the 250th opened, in Caracas, Venezuela. Currently, there are 271 Ronald McDonald Houses operating in 30 countries.

In 1994, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, an industry publication, released the results of the largest study of charitable and non-profit organization popularity and credibility conducted by Nye Lavalle & Associates. The study showed that Ronald McDonald House was ranked as the 2nd "most popular charity/non-profit in America" of over 100 charities researched with 50% of Americans over the age of 12 choosing Love and Like A Lot for Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House Charities?
Q. What do you know about RMHC?
Asked by unknown user - Tue Feb 28 18:30:45 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I know they are absolutely wonderful. They provide a home away from home for parents/ or grandparents, or caretakers of children who are hospitalized. Each house is immaculate, safe, secure, providing a place to sleep, and eat. They have tv rooms, libraries etc. (place to relax) when not at side of hospital bed. They are truly a Godsend, when you are a distance from your hometown. All the workers in them are volunteers, & are truly kind hearted to all. There is a very nominal charge for staying, and everyone has to do a daily chore, & of course clean their own rooms before leaving. For the nominal room charge, you also get free food for the time you are there. If you can't afford the even nominal charge, they will not turn you… [cont.]

A. The above answers are right on. Ronald McDonald House Charities provide housing for families when their children are very ill and hospitalized. They charge on a sliding scale and are usually very close to the hospital so the family can be close to the child. In addition they support other children related and medical research work. They do a fabulous job, are nonprofit, and staffed largely by volunteers.

Can you help my sister help Children in the hospital for Christmas?
Q. For the past three years my sister has been collecting new toys, food, and house hold items to take to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. She started this after we had to stay their when my son had open heart surgery when he was two days old. I was wondering if anyone would like to help by sending items to me and then I will surprise her with them and she will deliver them to the Charity or do you know any way I can help her get more items? Thank You!

A. Wow that is A*W*E*S*O*M* E* Probably her best bet is to get local businesses and churches involved. If she is a member of any clubs or groups she should enlist their help. Also she should try and get the local media involved. The more people that get involved, the better the results. Publicity is the best way to go. God bless both of you and the best of luck!!
