From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A charitable organization is a type of non-profit organization (NPO). The term is relatively general and can technically refer to a public charity (also called "charitable foundation," "public foundation" or simply "foundation") or a private foundation. It differs from other types of NPOs in that its focus is centered around goals of a general philanthropic nature (e.g. charitable, educational, religious, or other activities serving the public interest or common good). The legal definition of charitable organization (and of charity) varies according to the country and in some instances the region of the country in which the charitable organization operates. The regulation, tax treatment, and the way in which charity law affects charitable organizations also varies. AustraliaFrom Wikipedia under the

Asked by probal j - Tue Sep 4 14:43:32 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. there are so many opportunities and programs to help out in third world countries. Just use some of these links or countless others. Try searching Google.com for "volunteer programs Africa" or "humanitarian aid Africa" etc. I have been wanting to do a 1-2 month volunteer program in Africa also, but am not yet 18 which is a major problem with most groups, they can also be expensive, but definitely worth the effort, I have several relatives and friends who have worked in Uganda, Ghana, Thailand, and other countries in need of the help. Thank you for wanting to share your strength and abilities with those who need it. Good Luck! Answered by travel_guru92 - Tue Sep 4 19:43:58 2007 How do I start a charitable organization to provide musical instruments and lessons?
Q. to underprivileged children? I don't think there's one in my area. I know there is one in Atlanta (which is far away from me). I'm a music teacher who's unemployed at the moment, and I'd like to use my time to do what I do best for kids, even if it doesn't pay. I was thinking we could start with getting donations of musical instruments to distribute to interested children, and eventually find funding to provide lessons. I know nothing about starting this type of non-profit, but I thought I might start by talking to school principals. Any other ideas?
