A foundation is a legal categorization of nonprofit organizations. Foundations may also and often have charitable purposes. This type of nonprofit organization may either donate funds and support to other organizations, or provide the sole source of funding for their own charitable activities. DescriptionOne of the characteristics of the legal entities existing under the status of "Foundations", is a wide diversity of structures and purposes. Nevertheless, there are some common structural elements that are the first observed under legal scrutiny or classification.

When my mother's husband was dying and was sent home, their doctor brought over a bed that his mom had used when her husband had been ill. The doctor and his dad actually physically brought the bed over and set it up! People are so kind when you let them know you need something. I would check with your hospital or local churches to see if anyone has an available bed to begin with. If not, contact your newspaper and make a personal appeal for a bed. My friend needed a diabetic pump that medicaid would not pay for, and he made a public appeal, and the price of the pump ($3500) was raised in 3 days! The Make-a-Wish Foundation only grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Try contacting the Miracle of Swimming Institute and see if they have any assistance available or suggestions of where to go. Otherwise, try earning the money yourself. Can you make something that you can sell or can you provide a service, such as house cleaning, yard work? Or, look for a cheaper alternative. I know that some Family Y's have swim classes for people who are afraid of water and would be much cheaper and may be available even without a Y membership.
