A foundation is a legal categorization of nonprofit organizations. Foundations may also and often have charitable purposes. This type of nonprofit organization may either donate funds and support to other organizations, or provide the sole source of funding for their own charitable activities. DescriptionOne of the characteristics of the legal entities existing under the status of "Foundations", is a wide diversity of structures and purposes. Nevertheless, there are some common structural elements that are the first observed under legal scrutiny or classification.
Some of the above must be, in most jurisdictions, expressed in the document of establishment. Others may be provided by the supervising authority at each particular jurisdiction. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Foundation (charity)" In a charity foundation, what designation comes after Founder ? Q. I'm starting a charity foundation and my friend will also be joining me ( but will not be actually getting involved in the start up process). What should her designation be?. Asked by Sapphire - Mon Jan 28 23:45:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is no designation after "founder." In fact, "founder" means only that, but it does NOT mean that you run the charity. The founder is NOT in charge. The top designation at a charity is the CEO of the board of directors. The board is officially, legally in charge of the charity. ALL staff at a charity, including the executive director, report to the board. Your friend can either be a board member or a staff member, depending on what her role will be -- will she be putting up money for the charity and soliciting further donations, or, will she be working at the charity, helping with administration or programming? For the former, she would be on the board. For the latter, she would be on the staff. Same for the founder -- you need to… [cont.] Answered by Jayne says READ MORE BOOKS - Tue Jan 29 02:30:03 2008 Looking on the enternet for a charity/ foundation that will help donate a bed after having heart surgery? Q. My girl friends daughter is 11 yrs old and she needs heart surgery to repair her life side of her heart. The mother is on a fix income and doesn't have the money to purchase a bed. The mother is looking for a charity or foundation to help donate or privide her a hospital bed for her daughter. Asked by Theresa A - Sat Aug 26 20:34:31 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. When my mother's husband was dying and was sent home, their doctor brought over a bed that his mom had used when her husband had been ill. The doctor and his dad actually physically brought the bed over and set it up! People are so kind when you let them know you need something. I would check with your hospital or local churches to see if anyone has an available bed to begin with. If not, contact your newspaper and make a personal appeal for a bed. My friend needed a diabetic pump that medicaid would not pay for, and he made a public appeal, and the price of the pump ($3500) was raised in 3 days! Let me know if you make the appeal. delise@flash.net Good luck and thanks for being such a great friend. Q. I am a 59 year old widow and am finally ready to face my fear of water and really wish to attend the Miracle of Swimming Institute in Sarasota but can not afford it. I am hoping to find some assistance Asked by PNB - Wed May 12 20:51:29 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't know of any foundations that do this kind of thing for adults. The Make-a-Wish Foundation only grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Try contacting the Miracle of Swimming Institute and see if they have any assistance available or suggestions of where to go. Otherwise, try earning the money yourself. Can you make something that you can sell or can you provide a service, such as house cleaning, yard work? Or, look for a cheaper alternative. I know that some Family Y's have swim classes for people who are afraid of water and would be much cheaper and may be available even without a Y membership.
